There are some photography sessions that are simply extra special, and anytime I get the opportunity to
photograph for Cocomoon Hawaii, I know it’s going to be one of them. This latest shoot was especially exciting
because, for the first time, I had newborn twin baby girls in front of my camera modeling Cocomoon’s
newest collection!
As a newborn photographer here on Kauai, I spend a lot of time photographing tiny babies, but there is
something pretty magical about twins. Two sleepy little faces, two sets of tiny fingers and toes, and twice as
much sweetness made this session an absolute joy.
I’m always delighted when Cocomoon asks me to photograph one of their new releases. Cocomoon is a
Hawaii-based baby and children’s clothing company that creates beautiful pieces inspired by the islands we
call home.
A Hawaiian Company I Love Working With
One of the things I especially love about Cocomoon is the way they incorporate Hawaiian and island-
inspired prints into clothing and accessories designed for little ones. Their patterns have a distinctly
Hawaiian feel without being overly traditional. They’re fresh, modern and whimsical, with designs inspired
by the plants, flowers, animals, ocean and culture of Hawaii.
For a photographer, that makes their clothing so much fun to work with. The colors and patterns
photograph beautifully, while still allowing the baby—and all those wonderful newborn details—to remain
the focus of the image.
And with two beautiful newborn girls modeling the latest release, we had twice the opportunity to show
off the collection!
Fabrics Made for Newborns
Of course, when it comes to newborn clothing and baby fashion, how something feels is every bit as important as how it
looks.
Cocomoon is known for its wonderfully soft fabrics, something I appreciate even more because of the
amount of time I spend handling, wrapping and posing newborn babies. Their signature fabric is made
from rayon created from bamboo, giving their blankets, swaddles and clothing that incredibly soft,
lightweight feel that is perfect against a newborn’s delicate skin.
The fabric also drapes beautifully, which is one of those little details photographers notice! Whether the
twins were snuggled together or photographed individually, the softness and flow of the fabric helped
create the relaxed, natural images I love.
Twice the Newborn Sweetness
Photographing newborn twins requires a little extra patience and flexibility. One baby may be sound asleep
while her sister decides it’s time to stretch, wiggle or have a snack. Then, just when the second baby settles,
the first may decide she has other plans!
But that is also part of what makes photographing twins so much fun.
Rather than rushing a newborn session, I always allow babies to set the pace. With twins, that becomes
even more important. We take our time, make sure everyone is comfortable, and work around feeding and
soothing as needed.
Eventually, everything comes together—and there is nothing quite as adorable as seeing two sleepy
newborn sisters curled up next to one another in matching Hawaiian prints.
A Company That Gives Back to Hawaii
Another reason I enjoy working with Cocomoon is that the company’s connection to Hawaii goes beyond
simply using the islands as inspiration for its designs.
Cocomoon has made giving back to the Hawaiian community an important part of its philosophy,
supporting Hawaii-based nonprofit organizations and causes through its collections and charitable efforts. I
love seeing a local company celebrate the beauty and culture of Hawaii while also recognizing the
importance of helping care for the islands and the people who live here.
For families visiting Kauai, Hawaii can sometimes feel like a beautiful backdrop for a vacation. For those of
us fortunate enough to call these islands home, however, Hawaii is a community. Supporting local
businesses that respect that community and find meaningful ways to give back makes a difference.
Another Wonderful Cocomoon Shoot
This session combined so many things I love about what I do: newborn photography, beautiful Hawaiian-
inspired designs, a wonderful local company, and—this time—two absolutely precious baby girls.
Watching these tiny twin sisters snuggled together in Cocomoon’s newest prints was one of those moments
that reminded me why newborn photography never gets old. Every baby is different, every family has its
own story, and every session brings something I haven’t photographed before.
And sometimes, I get lucky enough to have twice the babies and twice the sweetness!
